Artist Spotlight: SterlingDraws

Sep 15, 2016William Robinson

Here at Soul-Terra, we're always pushing creativity to the limits. We believe everyone is an artist in their own way, and to live from a place of unique expression is synonymous with happiness & fulfillment.

We decided to hire a local Florida artist to bring our dream to life, a highly symbolic piece that represented the Soul of Soul-Terra. Embracing our esoteric roots, SterlingDraws created an amazing work of art that is captivating & insightful.

Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Sterling “Draws” Rodriguez and I am a mural painter, aerosol paint enthusiast and art teacher.

What role does the artist have in society?
Artists create what others think of, but cannot create for themselves. We bring life to lifeless objects and make mundane spaces interesting.

What’s your scariest experience?
I smoked salvia once and had hallucinated negatively. I could not see and it felt like I was falling into a black hole. It was a terrifying experience.

What music inspires you?
Acoustic Flamenco guitar and 80’s hair metal

Favorite Quote?
“Una Mirada no dice nada, y al mismo tiempo lo dice todo”- Carlos Varela “A look that says nothing, at the same time it says everything.”

Favorite food?
Rice and black beans

Check out the art anytime at 1326 Lafayette Street in downtown Cape Coral.
